Do I qualify for the winter fuel payment?
If you were born on or before 5 November 1953 and you lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of 17 to 23 September 2018, then regardless of income, you can grab a one-off, tax-free winter fuel payment of between £100 and £300 from the Government.
If that applies to you, you should have received the payment before Christmas. It doesn’t affect any other benefits you receive – but how much you’ll be paid will depend on your circumstances.
If you hadn’t received a payment by 14 January and you believe that you’re eligible, call the office that pays your benefits – its details will be on any letters it has sent you.
You should get the payment automatically if you receive the state pension or other social security benefits including pension credit, jobseeker’s allowance or income-related employment and support allowance. How much you’ll get depends on what benefits you receive.
If you’ve not had the payment before and don’t get benefits or a state pension, or only get housing benefit, council tax reduction, child benefit or universal credit, you’ll have to apply for it by calling 0800 731 0160 or emailing via this online form.
It’s available to all in the UK, so if any of the following circumstances applied to you between 17 and 23 September 2018, here’s what you’ll get for winter 2018/19:
